A separate proposal for a Sustainable Travel Zone that would have charged vehicles to enter an area of Cambridge was considered through the Greater Cambridge Partnership's Making Connections programme. A decision was made in 2023 not to pursue that proposal.

That means visitors should not confuse Cambridge with cities where ordinary rental cars currently face a city-wide Clean Air Zone or congestion charge.
